Why are you so stressed out? Is it because you don't have enough time in the day? You need to schedule your day appropriately to make sure you're hitting all the high points for the day in the short term. Keeping a schedule for your day will help you manage your time more efficiently. You can get more done and are less likely to forget tasks or become sidetracked. There is no such thing as a perfect schedule; we all have different priorities and opinionated responsibilities. However, the key is to be consistent and determined to follow through with no procrastination. Here are five tips that can help on how to schedule your day.

Scheduling is the art of planning your activities to achieve your goals and priorities in the time you have available. When it’s done effectively, it helps you:

  • Understand what you can realistically achieve with your time.
  • Make sure you have enough time for essential tasks.
  • Add contingency time for “the unexpected.”
  • Avoid taking on more than you can handle.
  • Work steadily toward your personal and career goals.
  • Have enough time for family and friends, exercise, and hobbies.
  • Achieve an excellent work-life balance.

You will need a task list or a calendar tool to help manage your day. You will be able to get reminders/notifications to know what the next task is and what time to do it.

02. Determine your priorities first ✔️

It is highly recommended to plan out your schedule the night before. You need to create a hierarchy list with the most important things you need to get done, then anything else that can be worked today, tomorrow, or the next day. With that being said, pretend you have to put a due date in each task. What are you going to be working on first?

03. Create a routine ⏱️

The most important thing about maintaining your health is accomplishing your goals and a balanced work-life. Set a routine to get yourself in a productive mode; make it a habit of getting up, stretching, planning out the day, collaborating, and beginning working. Everyone’s routine will be different depending on their personality and priorities. Practices help alleviate anxiety and combat burnout. Bonus tip! Keeping a journal to jot down your thoughts; will initiate mental healing and wellness.

04. After the first 2 hours, check your emails/ comms 📧

I recommend beginning your day getting into the groove before checking your emails or any communication (social media, text, email, etc.) That way, you don’t get overwhelmed with all the communication and things you need to follow up on. This helps build our momentum for the day. You want to start your day hopeful and energized, rather than overwhelmed or irritated with the many emails you receive. Get into the groove first.

05. Cater time for yourself and your family 👪

On this planet, this universe, we need to expect the unexpected. We are not robots; we like to have fun, spend time with our family, exercise, go out, etc. When making your schedule, you need to make sure you incorporate time for your family, friends, eating, and exercising. Have a balance in your work life. The reason is to make sure you are not stressed; the body tends to get overwhelmed and dramatic when things don’t go right the first time.

The Time Blocking Method

The time-blocking method creates your day by doing specific tasks and having a time duration for each job. You specify your days with particular things to do only on that day. Be consistent, follow through, and give yourself time to complete the task.

The Pomodoro Technique

The Pomodoro technique, also know as the 80/20 rule, is very effective when working with time and intense tasks. So here is how you do this technique:

  1. Choose a task
  2. Set the timer for 25 minutes
  3. Work on the task (absolutely no distraction, no phones, nothing but grind time) until the 25 minutes is up
  4. Take a short 5-minute break
  5. Every 4 sessions, take a longer break 15-30 minutes
